Query and update data from any client or server library by using the OData protocol.
OData is an HTTP-based web protocol designed on RESTful principles which delivers its payload through ATOM or JSON. Different applications provide different methods of accessing, and interacting with the data model through their APIs. OData standardizes this access by providing a uniform way to expose, structure, query and manipulate this data.
The OData ecosystem consists of “producers” and “consumers”. Producers are services that expose their data using the OData protocol, while consumers are simply applications that consume the exposed data using the protocol. Some of the popular applications that expose their data using OData are SharePoint 2010, IBM WebSphere eXtreme Scale REST, Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013, SAP NetWeaver Gateway, SQL Server 2012, Team Foundation Server, and Windows Azure Table Storage.
